A Love Story That Became Even More Meaningful
Sometimes life changes the plans completely, and yet somehow, the story becomes even more beautiful because of it.
When I met Huy & Sachiko at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for their engagement photo session, I already knew this would be one of those stories I would never forget.
When Sachiko’s mother became very ill, her final wish was to see them married.
So instead of a proposal beside the Lake Louise, Huy proposed beside her mother’s hospital bed. And there, surrounded by love, emotion, and family, they became husband and wife.
It may not have been the picture perfect proposal they originally imagined, but it became something far more meaningful.
For this engagement session at Lake Louise, they wanted to recreate the proposal moment they never had, while still preserving the sacredness and beauty of the moment they shared with her mother. It was never about replacing that memory. It was about honouring their journey together and celebrating how love can endure through both heartbreak and joy.
“Wish you were here, Ma.”
Those words stayed with me throughout the entire session.
But as emotional and meaningful as this session was, it was also one of the most fun engagement sessions I’ve had in a long time. Huy kept all of us entertained the entire evening with his singing, jokes, and energy, making Sachiko laugh nonstop. Between the emotional moments were so many genuine smiles and carefree memories, and I honestly loved every second of it.
That balance between deep emotion and pure joy made this session feel incredibly real — exactly what love is supposed to be.
As a Canadian Rockies wedding and elopement photographer, sessions like these remind me why I love what I do so much. Photography is not just about beautiful locations or perfect poses. It is about preserving the emotions, memories, and moments that define our lives.
And this story defined love in the most genuine way possible.
To make the evening even more special, Huy & Sachiko chose to celebrate both their personalities and their cultures through two completely different outfits.
Their first look felt timeless and romantic — with Sachiko wearing a stunning dress that looked like it came straight out of Bridgerton. Flowing elegantly against the mountain backdrop of Lake Louise, it gave the entire session a soft, cinematic feeling that perfectly matched the beauty of the Canadian Rockies.
Later in the session, they changed into traditional outfits to honour their heritage — Huy being Vietnamese and Sachiko Filipino. It added such a personal and meaningful layer to their engagement photos, beautifully representing not only their love story, but also the families, traditions, and cultures that shaped who they are.
Watching them celebrate both elegance and tradition in such an iconic location made this session feel deeply unique and unforgettable.
