Emerald Lake Wedding & Elopement Photographer | British Columbia

If you are dreaming of an intimate mountain wedding, romantic elopement, proposal or engagement session surrounded by turquoise water and dramatic Canadian Rockies scenery, Emerald Lake in British Columbia is one of the most beautiful locations you can choose.

As an Emerald Lake wedding and elopement photographer, I love photographing couples here because every season and every time of day creates something different. The turquoise water, surrounding mountains, forest and iconic Emerald Lake Lodge make this area an incredible backdrop for intimate weddings, elopements, proposals and engagement photography in Yoho National Park, BC.

This beautiful June morning with Ryan and Angela was a perfect example of why I recommend Emerald Lake, especially for couples willing to wake up early.

A Quiet June Morning at Emerald Lake

We met early in the morning while most visitors were still sleeping.

The lake was incredibly calm, the mountains reflected beautifully across the water, and for a little while it felt as though we had Emerald Lake almost entirely to ourselves.

There was only one black bear peacefully feeding on berries.

It was one of those wonderfully Canadian Rockies moments that you simply cannot plan.

Early mornings are one of my favourite times for Emerald Lake engagement and elopement photography. During the busy summer season, arriving early can give couples a much quieter and more intimate experience while also providing beautiful soft morning light.

For an intimate wedding or elopement, that peaceful atmosphere can make an enormous difference.

Ryan & Angela's Private Mountain Proposal

Ryan actually proposed to Angela the day before our session while they were hiking.

There was no photographer hiding behind a tree and no camera pointing toward them.

It was simply the two of them, surrounded by the mountains, experiencing one of the biggest moments of their lives privately.

But Ryan had another surprise planned.

He arranged an engagement photography session at Emerald Lake for the following morning so they could celebrate their engagement and still have beautiful professional photographs from their time in the Canadian Rockies.

I love this approach.

Not every proposal needs to be photographed at the exact moment it happens. Some couples want that moment to belong completely to them. An engagement session the following morning gives you the best of both worlds, a private proposal and beautiful photographs documenting how it felt to be newly engaged.

Emerald Lake Engagement Photography

With the excitement of their proposal still so fresh, Ryan and Angela didn't need much direction.

We walked around the lake, stopped at beautiful viewpoints and let them enjoy the morning together.

The calm water created gorgeous reflections, while the mountains and forest surrounding Emerald Lake gave us an incredible variety of backgrounds without needing to travel far.

This is one of the reasons I love photographing couples at Emerald Lake.

The landscape is naturally romantic. You don't need an elaborate setup or complicated decorations when you already have turquoise water, towering mountains and beautiful Canadian wilderness surrounding you.

Emerald Lake Wedding Photography

Emerald Lake is also a spectacular destination for couples planning a wedding in the Canadian Rockies.

Whether you are considering an intimate celebration at Emerald Lake Lodge or simply want wedding portraits surrounded by mountain scenery, this area offers an incredible combination of wilderness and romance.

As an Emerald Lake wedding photographer, my approach is focused on creating natural, timeless photographs while still allowing you to experience your wedding day.

Your wedding photographs should show more than what the mountains looked like.

They should remind you how the morning felt, how you looked at each other, how your family celebrated with you and all of the little moments that happened in between.

The Canadian Rockies provide the backdrop. Your story is what makes the photographs personal.

Emerald Lake Elopement Photographer

For couples who prefer something smaller, an Emerald Lake elopement can be an incredible alternative to a traditional wedding.

Imagine getting ready at Emerald Lake Lodge, exchanging vows surrounded by the mountains and spending the rest of your time exploring the lake together for photographs.

An elopement can be simple and intimate while still feeling incredibly special.

I photograph Emerald Lake elopements and intimate weddings with a relaxed approach, helping couples plan their photography timeline around the best light, beautiful locations and the experience they want to have.

If you are travelling to British Columbia for your wedding, I can also help with photography location ideas and timing so that you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

Destination Weddings and Elopements in Yoho National Park

Emerald Lake is located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, making it a wonderful choice for couples looking for a destination wedding or elopement in the Canadian Rockies.

It is also close enough to combine your photography experience with other spectacular mountain destinations, depending on your wedding plans and timeline.

For couples travelling from another province, the United States or internationally, having a photographer who is familiar with photographing weddings and couples throughout the Canadian Rockies can make planning much easier.

I photograph weddings, elopements, proposals and engagement sessions throughout Emerald Lake, Lake Louise, Banff, Canmore and the Canadian Rockies, and I am always happy to help couples decide which location best fits the experience and photographs they are dreaming about.
