Imagine me sitting comfortably on a log, just in front of the Lake Minnetonka waiting for Matt in green shorts and white T-shirt. When we talked about the location and a spot I specifically told him, and drew him a map, where I will be sitting /hiding and where he needs to bring Kate.
But it did not happened as we planned. I did saw them, but from the moment I did, they rushed to the little island, and from the location where I was siting I could not capture them. They were hiding behind the trees.
I wish someone would capture me running to the location, we would laugh so hard.
And at the end I did capture: I DO! :)
Last summer, I had the absolute joy of photographing Matt and Kate’s proposal at Lake Minnewanka.
Lake Minnewanka is one of those locations that always delivers. It’s dramatic without being overwhelming, peaceful without feeling remote, and the views are breathtaking no matter where you turn. It made the perfect place for Matt’s plan to ask the biggest question.
A Summer Proposal at Lake Minnewanka
We met at Lake Minnewanka on a very bright and warm summer day in Banff National Park. Matt and Kate instantly brought such a sweet, relaxed energy.
After the proposal, we took a short walk along the lakeshore, letting them settle into the moment and enjoy the scenery. This is one of my favourite parts of proposal sessions: it doesn’t feel like a photoshoot, it feels like a mini adventure.
Portraits by the Lake
We spent time capturing engagement style portraits around Lake Minnewanka. The mood shifted from anticipation to celebration — the best kind of energy.
We kept it simple and natural:
- walking hand-in-hand along the shoreline
- slow moments with the mountains in the background
- wide scenic frames showing Banff’s scale
- close up details of the ring + their hands intertwined
