For this beautiful couple, who travelled all the way from sunny California to Banff, their engagement photography session came with an unexpected surprise — the first snowfall of the season in late October!

And they absolutely loved it!

But there is something especially romantic about the first snow, particularly when two people have travelled thousands of miles to celebrate their love surrounded by the breathtaking Canadian Rockies.

Leaving behind the warm California sunshine, this lovely couple travelled to Banff, Alberta, to experience the magnificent Canadian Rockies and capture some beautiful memories together.

October in Banff can be unpredictable. One day, the mountains are glowing with golden autumn colours, and the next, everything is covered in a fresh blanket of snow.

And that is exactly what happened during their visit!

Instead of the typical autumn scenery, they were welcomed by the first snowfall of the season. But rather than being disappointed by the sudden change in weather, they couldn't have been happier.

They embraced the snow, the cold mountain air, and every little moment of their experience.

Located just a short drive from downtown Banff, this breathtaking glacial lake offers everything I love about photographing couples in the Canadian Rockies — dramatic mountains, beautiful water, rocky shorelines, and endless opportunities for romantic portraits.

In late October, Lake Minnewanka begins its transformation from autumn into winter.

The contrast between the dark lake, snow-covered mountains, and fresh white snow creates an incredibly beautiful backdrop.
