As a Banff elopement and proposal photographer, I get to witness love stories unfold in some of the most breathtaking places in the world — from misty mountain peaks to turquoise lakes. Every proposal has its own kind of magic, but this one at Peyto Lake truly felt like a scene straight out of a Hallmark movie.

When Jacob first reached out to me, I had no idea what his big plan was — only that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend at the stunning Peyto Lake Viewpoint. Of course, I was instantly thrilled and deeply honoured to capture such a special moment at one of my favourite locations in the Canadian Rockies.

As the date drew closer, Jacob sent me another message, and that’s when I realized just how thoughtful and romantic his plan really was. He wanted to hire videographer  Ryan Armstrong from RD3 Production and a guitarist, Mr. Hirschman, to play Can’t Help Falling in Love so they could share a dance right after the proposal. The sweetest detail? Jacob and his girlfriend actually met at a dance class — so the song couldn’t have been more meaningful.

On the day of the proposal, I started my drive toward Peyto Lake, and the sky began to darken. Clouds rolled in, and I remember thinking, there’s no way this is going to happen. But love doesn’t care about the weather — and neither did Jacob. Despite the looming rain, he was determined to make this moment unforgettable.

And unforgettable it was. The soft mountain light, the emotion in the air, the sound of the guitar echoing across the lake — everything came together perfectly. Watching them dance, surrounded by the wild beauty of Banff National Park, felt like witnessing a scene from a romantic film.

But Jacob wasn’t done yet. After the proposal, he had one more surprise planned: a romantic dinner at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel followed by a flight back home to Philadelphia the very same day. A whirlwind of love, adventure, and pure romance — the kind of story that reminds me exactly why I adore what I do.

Review 5*

World class photos from our surprise proposal at Peyto Lake, Banff, top notch service. Maia was wonderful. She stuck through it with us in the rain and the wind. She was very accommodating.
