A Breathtaking Banff Gondola Proposal at the Top of Sulphur Mountain


Feel the excitement as the Banff Gondola whisks you high above the treetops! In just eight minutes, you’ll ascend 700 metres up the steep mountainside to reach the summit of Sulphur Mountain — one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Canadian Rockies.

From the top, you can soak in panoramic views of Banff and the surrounding peaks, enjoy a romantic dinner at Sky Bistro or Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen, and watch the sunset paint the sky in soft alpine hues. Whether you’re planning your engagement photos, a proposal, or just a date night photo session, this spot is pure magic. You can even host an intimate wedding at the summit — can you imagine a more breathtaking backdrop?


And as you’ll see from my photos, not even the smoke from nearby wildfires could ruin the experience. If anything, it added a soft, dreamy glow to the mountains — making the entire scene even more romantic.

This couple’s story is one for the books. She’s from Manchester, he’s from the United States, and they’ve been living together in Hong Kong for several years. After attending a friend’s wedding in Montreal, they continued their trip west to Banff, where he had something truly special planned — a proposal at the very top of Sulphur Mountain.

And of course… she said YES! 💍

It was such a joy to capture this moment surrounded by the beauty of Banff National Park. From the gondola ride to the mountaintop celebration, everything came together perfectly — a true reminder that love always finds its way to the top.
